Electrical Thermography: Mapping Your Nervous System

At West Side Chiropractic, we believe in “testing, not guessing.” While X-rays show us the structure of your spine, an Electrical Thermography Scan shows us the function of your nervous system. This state-of-the-art, computerized diagnostic tool allows us to see how your nerves are communicating with your body, helping us pinpoint the exact source of pain, even when it’s hidden deep within the soft tissues.

How Does a Thermal Scan Work?

Your nervous system controls your body’s internal temperature by regulating blood flow. When a spinal nerve is irritated or “pinched” (a condition called subluxation), it causes an abnormal heat signature on the skin’s surface.

Our thermography technology uses highly sensitive infrared sensors to measure these tiny temperature variations along your spine.

  • Hot Spots: Often indicate acute inflammation or active nerve irritation.
  • Cold Spots: Can signal chronic nerve suppression or reduced blood flow to the area.
  • Asymmetry: If one side of your spine is significantly warmer than the other, it’s a clear indicator of neurological stress.

Why We Include This in Your Exam

We use this technology for every new patient because it provides an objective baseline of your health. The benefits include:

  • 100% Safe & Radiation-Free: Unlike X-rays, thermography uses no radiation. It is completely safe for pregnant women, infants, and seniors.
  • Visualizes Pain: It gives you a “heat map” of your body, allowing you to see exactly where your stress is located.
  • Tracks Real Progress: We perform follow-up scans throughout your treatment. This allows us to see your nervous system healing in real-time—often before you even feel the change!
  • Pinpoint Accuracy: By combining this with our Surface EMG (sEMG), we get a three-dimensional view of your spinal health.

What to Expect During the Scan

The scan is fast, painless, and non-invasive.

  1. The Process: A small, handheld sensor is rolled gently down your back. There are no needles, no shocks, and no discomfort.
  2. The Results: The data is instantly transmitted to our computer, where it generates a color-coded graph of your spinal health.
  3. The Review: Dr. Jessica or Dr. Wes will walk you through your “Stress Map,” explaining what the colors mean and how they relate to your symptoms.
